Yeah, when he's pissed off, he tends to be more illogical so it makes for more laughs. _________________

Agreed. Just so long as he doesn't get too off base, it's funnier that way. _________________

True, when he does go off base, then I pretty much just turn off mentally. _________________

Yahtzee was probably slightly harsh with it. I'm sure it's a technically flawless and fun game, but he is right with his overall repeated point that Nintendo gets away with mindless repetition to the point that it starts to stagnate.
Hardly any of their games excite me any more. Even "my" Nintendo series, Fire Emblem had it's latest entry revealed to be yet another remake. Great. Shadow Dragon paled next to Radiant Dawn, Path of Radiance and the GBA FE games. This game will likely be more of the same.
I am very curious about Metroid: Other M though. Super Metroid was one of my absolute favorite games of all time in my youth. Metroid Prime was one of the greatest disappointments in my teen years. I'm curious to what this completely new, different approach to the series by an established outside development team (of whom I'm unfamiliar, given I've never played Dead or Alive or Ninja Gaiden) will do with the series. If it works it make restore some of my falling faith in the company. _________________

Ugh, I actually didn't like Yahtzee's review for this. He needed to be more aggressive with his criticisms. Nintendo is getting away with destroying all the game franchises I used to love and I don't like it one bit.
You're going to hate me then because Metroid Prime was fun for being a shooter game. Hated the puzzles though, and that's what stopped me from getting Metroid Prime 2 and 3. However, I definitely like the prospect of Team Ninja getting into the Metroid franchise. The female characters they developed for Ninja Gaiden II are extremely hot and kick major ass, so I assume they'll make Samus very sexy as well as badass. _________________

I think he was harsh enough. The game is getting perfect scores from the mainstream reviewers. I'm sure it's technically flawless as anything. yahtzee's main and perhaps only relevant criticism of the game is an ideological one. I think he expressed it well enough.
Metroid games need puzzles. That's kind of the most fun part. I mean Super Metroid was built around awesomely impressive boss battles ,but between all that it was the sense of exploration as you navigate corridors, solving various puzzles to find and secure items that gave the game it's beauty.
I had high hopes for Prime going in. I read that it captured the essence of the traditional Metroid games and was a game even people who didn't typically like FPS games might enjoy. I bought it and found out rather quickly this was not the case. It just felt like another FPS game to me. I didn't get it at all.
I really kind of wish Nintendo would make more 2D Metroid games, as I absolutely adore exploratory 2D side scrolling action games (2D Metroid and Castlevania both being series I adore).
The thing I kind of fear with Team Ninja is they'll make it too combat focused. DOA is a gihting game and Ninja Gaiden is from what I understand very combat focused. _________________

Well, that's probably because I'm not big on puzzles when it comes to FPS games, I just want to shoot shit up and blow stuff up. Hence why I liked Metroid Prime initially.
But I agree with you there, the 2D side-scrollers were definitely more challenging and the whole re-spawn at the very beginning when you die in the middle of the level certainly provides a frustrating, yet fun concept.
Team Ninja does like making action games after all, what's not to love about them? _________________

I see no real apeal in that sort of thing. ANd as I've said before, the First person perspective just comes off to me as highly unimpressive and unfavorable.
I don't recall that really. Super Metroid has save points at least. I suppose the original Metroid didn't but my memories of that game aren't as strong or fond.
Not sure. Never played one of their games. _________________

The first-person screen can be off-putting, especially when I'm trying to figure out who's trying to shoot me only to get a knife in my back or get shot with a laser bolt.
Only played the original Metroid and Metroid 2.
Okay, Team Ninja does focus exclusively on action games. But maybe they'll turn the other cheek?
EDIT: Shit, I do remember playing Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion as well. Damn it, how many games do I not remember playing? _________________

It certainly puts me off.
Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission are all exceptional games in my opinion.
Don'tthe make a number of volleyball games from what I understand too? _________________

They are probably the best of the franchise.
Using female Dead or Alive characters. They maybe hot and sexy in their bikinis, but that's just for guys wanting to oggle. _________________

I think so.
And I always thought those games sold because people were actually interested in volleyball... Silly me. _________________

Love the sarcasm. But yeah, not much to really talk about there. _________________
