Yeah. I doubt are guide books are essential as the Japanese ones.

At least the ones I used to get didn't feel that way, even if they were nice.

That's because are more 'get it done' rather a combination of that and the flashy stuff that makes pretty and the whole backstory and stuff (hence why Japanese make great strategy guides).

I had a couple strategy guides that were completely useless, even though I had the strategy guides. It was a Dragon Quest I/II (Dragon Warrior in American English or whatever) startegy guide and I couldn't get to fight Hargon because apparently I wasn't using some item right and the damn strategy guide won't tell me how to use the blasted thing.

Yeah there's a part in my Devil Kings gide that is like that. I cant remember exactly what it was but I had to get this certain item to advance and fight the General of that particular battle only thing was when I went looking for the item it wasnt there. I got something else that was completly useless to me. Soo yeah, couldnt figure out what the hell whent wrong there and was left like a fish on the line Mad
