Yeah. A little challenge defintiely makes a game more fun. Though it used to be just a little out of hand. Games could be punishing. Didn't help that I sucked at most everything as a kid.

Challenging bosses make the game fun, but its when they get ridiculously impossible to the point that any option to defeat it is not viable that it seems to be a crucifix rather than a game.

Heh, you're not the only who sucked on games when you were young, Phil. I couldn't master my favorite game, Virtual On, until I was 9 years old; in fact I always got destroyed on the third Virtuaroid I had to face.

I've always gone by harder is better. I prefer games that really make you work for a win, especially when it comes to boss fights. The best kind are the ones you have to play over and over again to figure out their moves and learn to evade them.

You're definitely right, SGA. I never actually gave up those games, even though I had just written a very strong comparison of them to a crucifixion; in fact, after playing for a few days on the same boss, I know how to finally beat them.

I wasnt too super of a gamer when I started either Laughing I will agree with u all and say that I kind of fall inbetween. I like a chalange but I dont want to have to grind for weeks in order to get to the right level to face a boss thats going to hand my ass to me first time out. But I prefer that to faceing a boss that is a complete push over.

Yeah, stupidly hard beats stupidly easy any day, even if somewhere in the middle is ideal.

I can understand that. I used to get strategy guides a lot of the time myself (they made sense back when the internet was slow and didn't have everything), and they usually were well made with lots of cool pictures and information.

My aprents must have thought I sucked at gaming, as they would always buy the stragy guides for me, sometimes without me even asking...

I always bought strategy guides for the games I was playing, mostly because I needed to know what I'm facing and not necessarily what I need to do. I think I bought a couple strategy guides for games I don't have, but it was still worth it in my opinion.

I hate to admit it, but I used get a lot of strategy guides when I was a kid too. I always had problems finding my way around and figuring out what to do to get to the next area.

I think back in the day Strategy guides were a common thing to get.

They can't sell well anymore...

In Japan, guide books are works of art, especially for R.P.G.'s and visual novels. They are essential reading most of the time, even if you beat the game already and don't need the help.

That was when the Internet wasn't as advanced as it is now.

Hence why it's more flash than substance. I want the strategy guides because I can't trust whatever the hell these 'fans' post on some games. All these guys are either delusional or they fucking hacked.
