I am inclined to agree with u Phil. I can sort of understand why I mean an easyer boss means faster game progression and lower blood pressure levels for gamers but still there should be a line drawn somewhere for how easy a boss can be or somthing. If ur stuck on a boss for a few days or so fine but months, ya know somthing is wrong there _________________ "Are there any normal people left in the world or is everyone just back from Hell?" *SPAWN* |

Yeah. It's probably hard to get that just right. programming the boss to be hard enough to provide a challenge but not too hard to absolutely punish the player. Sounds difficult. _________________

I can sympathize with both of you, there was an FPS for the N64 called Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. I didn't have to face any bosses until the second half of the game, but the standard enemies alone looked like they were invincible! No matter how many times I shot them, they would not just die (I think one of the enemies took 5 shotgun blasts to the head and it still lived to rip my last amounts of health and my last life to shreds). _________________

Turok 2 bored me to death. I could never navigate the gigantic levels, and I really got upset when I couldn't find a save point after three hours of searching. _________________ Wanna come over to my house and listen to Jimi Hendrix? Then we can play strip search.

I had a strategy guide so I knew where I was going. Allowed me to concentrate on getting freaked out by the enemies before killing them. The enemies I hated the most where those Flesh Eaters from the fake Portals created by Oblivion. _________________

I don't think I saw them (can't really remember). The farthest I made it into the game was level 3. _________________ Wanna come over to my house and listen to Jimi Hendrix? Then we can play strip search.

There's two types of temple-like portals. The one with the purple warp is the Save portal, the one with the regular-colored warp is the Fake Portal. The Flesh Eaters are basically cyclops-like humanoid deformities. The voice actor of Oblivion did a very good job of giving me nightmares and those Flesh Eaters just will not die. _________________

Oh yeah, I remember them. Those guys were real assholes! They were almost impossible to hit and they never seemed to die. _________________ Wanna come over to my house and listen to Jimi Hendrix? Then we can play strip search.

The damn Sentinels keep dodging my shotgun blasts with their combat rolls. I could never kill the Death Guards, I had to have two Sentinels or a Lord of the Flesh to kill him for me before I dispatched the severely weakened victors. _________________

I can dig it But u want to hear somthing sad? In .HACK//GU Reminisce the hardest boss I faced was right at the begining. Saku/Bo and thier Avatar which was a royal pain in the ass All the other bosses after that two hits half life cut sceen, three or four more hits dead, Avatar few hits freeze fifteen min tops. Disapointment, great game otherwise though. _________________ "Are there any normal people left in the world or is everyone just back from Hell?" *SPAWN* |

Heh, that's probably pretty common in games that the first boss is one of the more difficult. It's a failure on the programmer to correctly implement a difficulty curve. In RPGs and other open world games, with the first boss, your not given much time to prepare so the challenge is close to the creator's vision.
As you move on though, you're presented more opportunity to level up or upgrade your characters through sidequests and simple exploration and this makes future bosses less daunting. _________________

True, true very true That was a lil problem with me in the .HACK//GU games since there are limitless places to go and level up and no time saying that you must go face that boss NOW, I went overboard with leveling up my characters so that by the time I reached the bosses I was sometimes five levels or more above them Yeah good and bad at the same time.
With LoD, once u get up past lv 15 the number of skill points that u need to reach ur next lv gets ridiculously high U have to grind like crazy to reach a level where u can fight the bosses and not die with in the first five min. _________________ "Are there any normal people left in the world or is everyone just back from Hell?" *SPAWN* |

Heh, it seems as if as things progress RPGs are trying to put less and less emphasis on level grinding. I remember in some of the older RPGs you were seriously punished if you didn't spend hours in random encounters. _________________

Yep, those were the good ol' days. Now they give you lame-ass bosses to compensate for the few opportunities you can train in the beginning. _________________

Damn straight. Grinding might be a royal pain in the ass but at least the bosses are worth it for all the frustration they can generate with their hardness. Push over fights are just no fun. _________________ "Are there any normal people left in the world or is everyone just back from Hell?" *SPAWN* |
