A pleasant experience with Aoishiro led me to finally sit down the visual novel I've been meaning to play for at least two years now, Fate/Stay Night.
I watched the anime back then and adored it. I fell in love with all the female characters (most of the male characters were also cool; Shirou only annoyed me sometimes).
It has everything I like:
Badass warrior girl (with armor is bonus points), Saber.
Tsundere, Rin
Loli, Ilya.
Sexy, adult action girl, Rider.
Dark, pointy-eared magic user, Caster.
Hell, even Sakura, who is an archetype I don't tyically go for is still an enjoyable character for me:
Anyway, the game is great so far (even if the four years younger Aoishiro spoiled me on full voice acting and such things). I'm doing the Fate route first, so it's been fairly simmilar to the anime.
Of course eventually I reached a particular scene that wasn't in the anime and realy should have been. Here are some of the highlights:
I now understand perfectly why I was always told the visual novel was better than the anime... _________________

I don't know the sort of friendly and shy ordinary girl type is sort of boring to me.

Hmm well the translation patch is easy enough to find. I'm kind of sworn not to encourage usage of the patch with illegal copies of the game, so I won't post the site, but there is only one English Fate/Stay Night patch and Google makes findign things easy.
The game on the other hand is a lot more troublesome. I found it using a torrent and then it was difficul to figure out how to install it.

This seems to be it in fifteen parts on both megaupload and rapidshare, if you have the patience for such things (it's not as big as Aoishiro it seems). Not sure what sort of fiel this will turn out to be though. Also this page seems to have links to the voice track added to the PS2 version (which my torrent didn't include), but I'm not sure its worth downloading 25 more files. _________________

Well, I neglected writing anything today so I could finally complete this game.
I cannot begin to explain how satified I am with it. My apologies to the cute blood drinking yuri girls, but Aoishiro doesn't even really compare. After playing through the entire game, unlocking all five good endings and all forty bad endings, I find myself completely absorbed in this world and these characters.
I'm not sure I even understand it. Actual "gameplay" consists of just reading a bunch of text (I didn't even had a voiced edition of the game) and answering difficult dilemmas like this:
and yet I find myself strangely more fulfilled than I have been after most any game I've ever played. I guess the story was that good. The characters were that well designed.
Yeah, I found myself interested in just about every character, and not just the cute girls pictured above.
I usually hate male protagonist in anime/manga type stuff, and in the Fate/Stay Night anime, Shirou Emiya was hardly an exception to the rule. But through the Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel routes, I really began to accrue a sort of respect for his characters.
The other male characters are also fairly cool. Archer in particular I found engaging. Kirei Kotomine was another favorite and so were Lancer, and both Assassins.
But of course I played it for the girls. Shotly after I wathed the Fate/Stay Night anime, while at an anime convention, I bought a Saber poster for my wall. I'm more glad now than ever that I did. She will always be my favorite, even if her route is perhaps the most straightforward. In all honesty, if you look at just the Fate route, you're better off with the anime (which is more or less an adaption of it with a few elements of the other two routes thrown in) despite the inclusion of sex scenes and maybe a little more emotional punch to the ending (one of the more emotional scenes I can remember in a game, anime or anything else really). But still, Saber is definitely my type plain and simple.
Rin Tohsaka was the heroine of the second route, Unlimited Blade Works. She's a classic example of tsundere. As such she is awesome and sexy. If she didnt exist in the same world as Saber she'd be my number one. Only complaint I had with her, is that her route has but one sex scene and it's not even all that good (to much dere, not enough tsun). This is somewhat made up for by the fact that in the Heaven's Feel route, Shirou has an erotic dream about her (which sadly was better than the real thing). It's hinted that she's bisexual (most strongly in the scene I show in the original post, but also in the fact that in the two scenes that are directly from her perspective, she seems to fawn over how beautiful other women are). This of course makes her even more awesome
I ended up liking the heroine of the final route, Heaven's Feel, Sakura Matou a lot more after coming to understand her. She's a very tortured, unstable character (none of which is really seen in the anime). She's also easily the most sexual heroine. Her and Shirou go at it three time (as opposed to Rin's once and Saber's twice).
My biggest complaint (my second biggest complaint is that that one yuri scene isn't enough) with the game is there is no Illya route. I can totally see the potentail; that you cannot make Shirou chase the loli is a damn shame in my opinion. Rider route would have been nice too, but that's more understandable.
Well, that's probably enough gushing about this game. It really did absorb me these past few weeks. I'm now waiting most eagerly to see the sequel, Fate/Hollow Atraxia translated. I'm also considering starting this http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Fate/Zero:Volume1_Full_Text, even though it's essentially a book and I don't usually read those. I'll also be buying the PSP game Fate/Unlimited Codes released a month or so ago when I get the chance. Finally, I'm actually getting fanfic ideas for the series (which are strogn ot the point where they might materialize). I might have become a little obsessed.
They're all so hot (even if the ones on the ends were very minor, underdeveloped characters in F/SN). _________________

I'll certainly have to give it a go, dude. I'm going to get a friend to rip it to a CD for me which should be good. _________________ Fu fu fu... |

Looks it.
What's better, anime or visual novel?
Wait. The VN has lesbian sex.
Bit of a stupid question, in hindsight... _________________ Fu fu fu... |

That scene pictured above is the only bit of yuri in the game. It'a also the first sex scene.
Even without that amazing scene, I'd actually put the anime ahead in terms of telling the story of the first playthrough, though its mostly because I simply prefer seeing everything happen instead of reading it. Also the anime incorporates characters not focused on prominently in the VN's first route (mostly moments inspired by the other two routes) into that route for even more awesome moments.
But of course the Visual Novel contains two other full, distinct stories, separate from the first one. As such you really can't even compare them. You need to go with the Visual Novel to fully understand all of the complexities of the Fate/Stay Night universe. _________________
