Resident Evil isn't much of a movie series.

My three favorite zombie movies are probably Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead and Planet Terror, all of which approach the subject matter with varying degrees of offbeat humor and camp.

You should try The Return of the Living Dead and Braindead for off-beat humor.

Awesome. Always looking for more zombie movies.

But to return to the topic here, I watched a couple more Summer season anime premieres.

Sekirei ~ Pure Engagement's debut reminded me exactly what I loved about the original series. Which is good, cause after two full years I needed a reminder. That of course is the very diverse cast of beautiful and interesting girls (and non-girls; Shiina is essentially a trap, and Homura is interesting whatever s/he is). But seriously, I'm surprised how much has come the episode brought back to me. It also did remind me of waht I didn't like about the show, namely the main character Minato who defines the spineless generic male harem lead like few characters do. If I didn't love his harem so much, and if there wasn't actually some pretty cool action in the show along with all the great fanservice, he'd be hard to put up with.

The only other show I was interested in that's been subbed so far was something called Occult Academy. It's the third series from A-1 Pictures, Aniplex's Anime no Chihara project. This project debuted with Sora no Woto, which some of you may remember me saying was the highlight of the last Winter season for me. They then went on to do Sengoku no Night Raid, a solid, if very paced historical supernatural action show, that though I abandoned it halfway through due to poor release schedules on the fansubs and general lack of interest, did seem to have some magic to it. The promise of this project made me quick to pick up their newest work, and I have to say, having had no prior expectations, I was very much impressed. It's about a blunt, aloof girl with both a deep rooted hatred for, and an expansive knowledge of, all things occult. She ends up at the titular academy after the death of her father, who was principal there. The result is a lot of fun. Seriously. It's not zombies (though the first episode does have something kind of similar), but like High School of the Dead, this is the start of something pretty cool I think. I love the lead already. She's self-assured and attractive and seems ready to kick ass when need be. I'm looking forward to where this one takes me.

Watched more from the summer tonight.

Strike Witches 2 was an absolute delight. I love these characters. I love this world where pants for girls were never evented. I love it all. I was a little worried about it leaving Gonzo's hands, but that worry was unfounded. The animation was better here then it was with Gonzo. The Neroul look a lot more organic and natural, the battle scene in particular was beautifully animated in a delightful way. The fanservice shots remain prevalent and intriguing, though never the reason I'm watching so intensively. I'm pumped for this season. It cannot fail me.

Something that might fail me is Shiki. I honestly have no clue what to make of it after the first episode. it was disarmingly odd in its presentation. The first episode focused on a young girl best summarized as a Misa Amane living in a small boring farming village where she hates everything except for a cold aloof boy she barely knows (whom she stalks) and the strange castle recently erected on the outskirts of town. She disapears going near this castle one day and is found with severe anemia in the woods. She dies after a couple days and the episode ends having raised more questions then it answers. It has a very large number of characters it seems, and something charming about it. Sure, it's rather obvious that at least one vampire is in some way involved, but there really might be something to this show. Then again there might not be.

Finally I looked at the wonderfully named The Legend of Legendary Heroes. At first glance it's a rather by the book fantasy series. It has moments where it tries for camp a la Slayers, but it doesn't quite work as well here as it did there. But still it's appealing. Much like Sacred Blacksmith did not too long ago, this show makes a strong appeal to me by having as a central character an attractive female swordswoman. But Heroes goes beyond Blacksmith there. Ferris, isn't just attractive, she's fucking hot and lovable in every sense I can think of. She also isn't just a swordswoman, but a fucking badass who seems capable of cutting just about anything with her aptly wielded blade. Yes, Ferris alone will get me to watch this entire show, but it's not like there isn't promise elsewhere. The male lead, a somewhat aloof magician guy with eye powers seems tolerable, as does the benevolent young bishounen king. Certain bits of the first episode came off as disjointed or rushed to me, and like I said the humor was very hit or miss, but this show has defintie potential.

Now on the second ep of some stuff.

High School of the Dead episode 2 introduced the rest of the main cast. It di it well too. It's a likeable group of characters in my opinion. The beautiful and confident, albeit sadistic Saeko can sure kick some ass. Tsundere genius Saya is a personal favorite, shown here to be in a complete mess of emotions. Shizuka obviously isn't the character for everyone, but I think she's cute and fun in a number of ways. Kohta is a fun character as well, able to transition from nerdy fat kid to gun weilding badass fluidly whenever it calls for it; adding to his badassness is that he was likely based off of the creator of Hellsing. But yeah, just as exciting and fun as the first episode. Keep the zombies coming.

Occult Academy 2 was also just as much fun as the first. The male protagonist was introduced to be a telekinetic secret agent from the future. He's been sent 13 years into the past to stop one of Nostradamus' predictions from occuring and the world being destroyed by aliens as a result. Meanwhile, heroine Maya learns that the death of her father may be somehow connected in some big conspiracy. It's very interesting and original and I love the direction it's going. Maya, who's something of a tsudnere is an infectious character too.

Ack, forgot to watch High School of the Dead! Mind if you post the link to the episode (and no, I don't want the MegaUpload versions anymore, they're really starting to irritate me)?

Aw, what the shit? It's not working. Maybe I'll just try to have it streamed.

EDIT: Never mind, its downloading now. Had to do it three times though just to get it to work, though.

MORE EDIT: Scratch my previous statement, it just stopped, just literally stopped. It's Megaupload all over again!!!

Well, I don't know what to say then. You want to try a Megaupload link?

Well, there's a very good chance then that your connection is currently too weak to watch or download anything.

Still, here's the link.

But why is that? My connection is at very good (four bars out of five) so I don't understand how it could be weak.

EDIT: Strange, now Megaupload is working perfectly now. I only have to wait four more minutes. What's up with that?

MORE EDIT: I'm wrong again, it failed. Shit, this sucks. Guess I'll watch it tomorrow then.
