Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Original premise, stupid-looking villains, and so on. Don't forget that Johnny Yong Bosch (voice actor of Ichigo from Bleach and Lelouch from Code Geass) was Adam Park, the Black Ranger from the second season until the series finale. _________________

Oh, you were asking when I stopped watching it. Yeah, it was SPD for me as well. I think I missed some (Lightspeed Rescue and the middle of Lost Galaxy, but I managed to catch the finale of it) _________________

I watched and absolutely loved the original Power Rangers. I watched all three season. But then when they started to change it up and switch the setting and the characters out I gave up on it.
Prtetty much the same story as the pokemon anime and me.
I guess I was pretty jaded when it came to altering my favorite series as a kid. _________________

I never liked Power Rangers. They weren't considered cool even when I first heard of them.
Everyone was into Pokemon instead. _________________ Wanna come over to my house and listen to Jimi Hendrix? Then we can play strip search.

The Power Rangers were like the biggest thing out there when the first season came out in 1993 (I was 6). It was unique back then; a reworking of Japanese Super Sentai for an American audience. There was nothing like it on TV. It did seem to just sort of fade from the radar once they changed the direction of the series and I'm sure it did become gradually less cool from there.
I was already in Middle School when Pokemon started. I was dragged into it like everyone else, but the anime already felt sort of kiddy to me (and I didn't stay with it long). The pokemon phenomenon was more about the video games and the card game with me. _________________

That's probably it. I just know that everyone at the daycare I went to (I was only in Kindergarden or 1st grade) said it was horribly uncool to like Power Rangers, so I never got into it.
Around the same time, Pokemon was extremely popular. I'm pretty sure almost everyone in my grade has played at least one Pokemon game, and it's still not completely uncool to like it (although I'm not into it anymore). I agree that the anime is bit childish, but I was really into it when I was younger. I had just about everything Pokemon had to offer: video games, VHS episodes, cards, etc.. _________________ Wanna come over to my house and listen to Jimi Hendrix? Then we can play strip search.

I think my preference of PR of Pokemon is what started my outcast life at school. I liked Pokemon, but Power Rangers had explosions and crap. |

Well, you're 5 years younger than me. So, yeah, it would have been 1998 for you at that age. Power Rangers was well past the height of its popularity (probably 1995, as that's when the movie came out), and had fallen out of fashion. And yeah, 1998 was also the start of the Pokemon explosion. Makes perfect sense to me.
My sister, who's closer to your age, really loved the Pokemon anime, and I probably stayed with it longer than I normally would have watching it with her, even if I only lasted through the equivalent of the end of the first game watching regularly, watching only the occasional odd episode after that.
I played the games like crazy, almost never beating them as I had to catch all the pokemon which took long enough for me to lose interest most of the time. And I was also obsessed with the card game. I was into league play and everything. At the peak of it I even won a tournament. _________________

It's funny. Every time I watch Pokemon nowadays, I can't stop nitpicking everything.
I played the games like crazy, too. I didn't try to catch all the Pokemon, though I did have at least fifteen Pokemon that were level 100 when I stopped playing Red, Silver, Gold, and Yellow. I wasn't quite as obsessed with the card game, although I did collect a bunch. Never entered any tournaments with them. I only played and beat my friends at it. That's really cool that you won a tournament, though. _________________ Wanna come over to my house and listen to Jimi Hendrix? Then we can play strip search.

I don't even bother watching these days. I'd probably just be annoyed bu it.
I never got anythign to level 100. It was all about getting all the pokemon. It was Red and Silver for me. Didn't play any of the others (well I had some of the Nintendo 64 games and stuff).
Yeah, it was pretty cool to win the tournament. In the final round I beat this college age guy (I was like 14) and he was obviously pissed. Won a free rare card as my prize (currently forgettign what the card was though...). _________________

Yeah, I've definitely outgrown the anime.
I had Pokemon Stadium. That game was pretty awesome. I kinda wish I still had it.
Sounds awesome. I probably would have gone a cussing rampage if I won. "YEAH! FUCK YOU! I'M FUCKING BETTER THAN YOU, BITCH!" Or at least I'd do that in my head. _________________ Wanna come over to my house and listen to Jimi Hendrix? Then we can play strip search.
