Heh. So, the Queen's Blade DVD I ordered a few eeks ago arrived a while back .Didn't get a chance to watch it until tonight (or more, as my sister wanted a turn at the PS3, I was forced to find something else to do).
I'm reminded of when I watched Strike Witches on DVD after having watched it fansubbed online. The video quality is just so much better (and having it on a TV Screen rather than a computer screen only makes that more apparent. I appreciate the animation a lot more. This is great, as Queen's Blade is really a beautifully animated show. There's nothing cheap about it, despite the fanservice. Every frame glistens invitingly and it all flows so very smoothly and beautifully.
I don't know if the improved visuals had me more immersed in these first four episodes or something, but the plot actually seem stronger than I remember it. I cared more about Leina than I remember caring at least.
The voice acting was strong for the most part. Some of the supporting roles and bit parts were completely flat, especially in the Tomoe episode though. Leina's actress is superb. Risty's exceedingly solid for a newcomer. Melona and Echidna both have very sexy voices in different ways and both succeed in making their respective characters, two of my favorites, even more alluring. Claudette seems about right, simply put. Tomoe is a very good fit too. The others I'm not as sold on. Nanael's voice seems to alternate between simply irritating and downright grating on the ears for me. Maybe I'll get used to it, but for now, it's not very pleasant. I like Shizuka in bits, but at times her voice seems a bit off; I probably will get used to it in this case though. Elina's a little shrill for my tastes too; it's okay, but I'm finding I don't like her as much as I did before.
But yeah, I'm more or less happy with the dub cast, and definitely happy with the DVD. I will be buying the rest of the series as it comes out. Awesome stuff. _________________

Well, it's excellent to know that you find the D.V.D. release to be optimal. I hope it sells very well. _________________

Yeah. Media Blasters did a good job on it.
I hope it does too. _________________

Oh, so Media Blasters is behind this too. I was going to ask if they were distributing Queen's Blade. _________________

Yep. They did. They're probably the only American distributor who'd even think about licensing the series. _________________

I do know they distribute some of the best of the trashy Italian horror and sleaze from the 70's and 80's too (although there are competing companies that try to license those). _________________

They pick up a lot of stuff. Media Blasters is also one of the biggest licensors and distributors of H-anime out there. _________________

I think they are the distribution company I like the most, for the wide variety of things they pick up. Also, they made Tokyo Gore Police possible (by asking director Yoshihiro Nishimura if he would work on another film). _________________

They're not quite my favorite, as they often don't dub anime series they pick up to save on costs (particularly on more niche titles). And when they do dub, it seems more hit and miss then a lot of other distributors. _________________

Eh, dubs aren't especially important to me. They are fun once or twice to see how favorite characters turn out (many hard-core anime fans in Japan like to know that), but ultimately I prefer watching anything in the original language. I don't care too much to see The Return of the Living Dead or BioShock dubbed in Japanese, only the original English. Likewise, English dubs of anime tend to only be a brief curiosity to me (actually, a bad, inaccurate dub gets more attention from me because sometimes I find it stupidly charming).
On the other hand, there probably should be a dub for everything, just so. _________________

I'm more than capable to enjoy anime in the native Japanese, but I must say I honestly do prefer dubs most of the times. It's a bit more immersive for me. Usually anime dub quality is fairly high these days in my opinion, despite what some people may say. Even if it's not a necessity for me to enjoy the series, it really does disappoint me when a company licenses a series and then decides to forego dubbing it. Media Blasters has let me down like that more times than most companies.
I do understand the appeal of a bad dub though. Stuff like that can be a lot of fun. _________________

If no one had heard yet, there is a new Queen's Blade O.V.A. series, Utsukushiki Toushi-Tachi, coming out. _________________
